What can you actually say at a K-pop fansign?
Here are two design decisions we made building fan-message translation in 28 languages: every Korean line is capped at 100 characters, and the output always stays in polite Korean — -요 (-yo) endings by default. Both exist for moments exactly like a fansign. A long, careful paragraph works on paper, but the line you can actually deliver out loud is one breath long — and with an idol you are meeting for the first time, polite Korean is the one register that cannot go wrong. Every line below follows both rules: short enough to survive nerves, polite enough to be safe.
A fansign gives you seconds: a quick moment at the table, or a one-to-three-minute video call (영통, yeongtong) where lag can eat a big chunk of your time. Below are six lines for the in-person table and six for video calls, each with romanization so you can practice out loud. If you are afraid of freezing, write your line on a card — hand it over at the table, or hold it up to the camera. A handwritten Korean line is the kind of thing that gets read, and remembered.
What should you say at the fansign table?
Pick one line and practice it out loud. Each one is a single breath in polite Korean.
- It's my first time seeing you in person, and my heart feels like it's about to burst — 오늘 실물 처음 봐요, 심장이 터질 것 같아요 (oneul silmul cheoeum bwayo, simjangi teojil geot gatayo) Make this into a card
- I came from far away to meet you, and I'm so happy right now — 멀리서 만나러 왔어요, 지금 너무 행복해요 (meolliseo mannareo wasseoyo, jigeum neomu haengbokhaeyo) Make this into a card
- I'm so nervous the words won't come out — 너무 떨려서 말이 잘 안 나와요 (neomu tteollyeoseo mari jal an nawayo) Make this into a card
- Because of you, I started learning Korean — 덕분에 한국어 공부를 시작했어요 (deokbune hangugeo gongbureul sijakhaesseoyo) Make this into a card
- Please eat well and don't get sick — 밥 잘 챙겨 드시고 아프지 마세요 (bap jal chaenggyeo deusigo apeuji maseyo) Make this into a card
- I'll definitely come see you again next time — 다음에 꼭 또 만나러 올게요 (daeume kkok tto mannareo olgeyo) Make this into a card
What should you say on a video call (yeongtong)?
Video calls are for small requests. These are the asks idols hear all the time and love, in polite Korean.
- Please say my name just once — 제 이름 한 번만 불러 주세요 (je ireum han beonman bulleo juseyo) Make this into a card
- Please make a heart for the camera — 카메라에 하트 한 번 해 주세요 (kamerae hateu han beon hae juseyo) Make this into a card
- Please sing just one line of a song — 노래 한 소절만 불러 주세요 (norae han sojeolman bulleo juseyo) Make this into a card
- Whenever things got hard, your songs kept me going — 힘들 때마다 노래 듣고 힘냈어요 (himdeul ttaemada norae deutgo himnaesseoyo) Make this into a card
- I will never forget this call — 오늘 통화 평생 못 잊을 거예요 (oneul tonghwa pyeongsaeng mot ijeul geoyeyo) Make this into a card
- I'll support you until the end, I love you — 끝까지 응원할게요, 사랑해요 (kkeutkkaji eungwonhalgeyo, saranghaeyo) Make this into a card
