BTS fandom terms in Korean: borahae, apobangpo, ARMY Bomb

보라해 (borahae) means "I purple you" — a promise to trust and love each other for a long time. V coined it at a BTS fan meeting in 2016, and it has been ARMY's signature sign-off ever since. We translate fan messages into Korean all day, in 28 languages, and this was the line our pipeline kept fumbling: "I purple you" came back as 퍼플해요, machine Korean rather than fan Korean — both times we tested it. We pinned the idiom, and it now returns 보라해 six times out of six.

One detail worth keeping: 보라해 never takes the polite -요 ending. Our Korean output otherwise stays in 존댓말, the polite register, but fixed fan idioms like 사랑해 and 보라해 are the exception — 보라해요 is the one form you won't see from ARMY. The same goes for 아포방포 (apobangpo), the sign-off Jung Kook built from "아미 포에버, 방탄 포에버" — ARMY forever, BTS forever. Every line below is short enough to finish by hand.

The fandom name is written in Hangul — 아미 — and the simplest identity line is 데뷔 때부터 아미예요: "I've been ARMY since debut." OT7, One True 7, works differently: Korean fans keep it in roman letters even mid-sentence, and our translator does the same, treating it as a globally recognized token like BTS itself. Correct — but with one practical catch in our app: the handwriting practice grid is Hangul-only, so roman letters like OT7 never make it onto the card. When the line is meant for the members, spell the meaning out instead: 일곱 명 모두 응원해요, "I'm cheering for all seven." 스밍, clipped from 스트리밍 (streaming), is the fan work of playing a comeback on repeat for the charts, and 컴백 is the comeback itself — both come back clean from our pipeline, the abbreviation CB included.

The official light stick is 아미밤 — "ARMY Bomb" written the way Korean fans actually say it. This was the term our pipeline got half-wrong: "ARMY Bomb" survived in roman letters one time out of two, and roman letters can't be practiced on a Hangul handwriting card, so we pinned it to 아미밤. 페스타 (Festa) is the celebration BTS holds every June around their debut anniversary, and 달려라 방탄 — 달방 for short — is their own variety show, Run BTS. Drop any of these words into a card and an ARMY reads them instantly.
